A CHALLENGE LIKE NO OTHER

You can watch every moment of Billy's incredible journey in an hour-long documentary over on BBC iPlayer(opens in new window).

This February, professional racing driver and double-leg amputee, Billy Monger, undertook a gruelling triathlon inspired challenge, in support of Red Nose Day. Over the course of four days, he battled the elements as well as physical and mental exhaustion, as he set out to walk, kayak and cycle a staggering 140 miles. Along the way, he was supported by family, friends and some very special guests to help spur him on to the finish line.

The money Billy raises will help support a number of life-changing projects both across the UK and around the world, whether it’s tackling mental health stigma, taking action against domestic abuse, providing safety to families who need support, or helping to give children the best start in life. And with the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic increasing demand, the money raised will also reach some of the most vulnerable in society who have been hit hardest by this crisis.

#BILLYWHIZZ

Having started racing at just six years old, Billy Monger quickly became one of Britain’s most exciting young talents within the world of competitive motor racing, earning him the nickname #BillyWhizz. In April 2017, following a crash at Donington Park circuit, Billy was left with life-changing injuries, resulting in the amputation of both his legs.

Undeterred, Billy’s resilience and resolve saw him back behind the wheel within a year, as he became the first-ever double amputee to race competitively in a single-seater racing car, at just eighteen years of age.

THE CHALLENGE IS ON

Bringing his trademark passion, determination and focus to this challenge, Billy underwent an intensive training regime, overseen by some of Britain's best coaches and athletes, to help him prepare for this epic task.

On Billy’s training team was Wildwater World Champion and Team GB Coach Hannah Brown, two-time World Paratriathlon Champion Hannah Moore, Paralympic Talent Coach Becky Hewitt, and Billy’s long-time trainer, Andy Wellfare.
