Our mission combines Comic and Relief. We believe that helping others can be easy and fun, even in the face of the challenges we face every day. We believe this because we’ve seen the power of people coming together to create change over our 30+ year history. When we come together to help others, we unleash the best in all of us. We fund and partner with organisations that support people in a crisis but are also building a better future for us all by focusing on prevention and the root causes.

All year-round, the money donated to Comic Relief works hard to support some incredible projects making a change to people's lives across the UK and around the world.

You can find out more about the people and projects we work with in our what your money does section of our website.

You can make your own JustGiving page at any time of the year, but when you register as a fundraiser for Red Nose Day, you’ll automatically be set up with a JustGiving page.

Before you share your page with your friends, family, colleagues, or school parents, you need to activate the page. To do so you need to have a JustGiving account, which you can set up here if you don’t already have one.

If you want to make any changes to your page, please see the JustGiving help pages, where they share step by step guides on everything from changing the name on your page, to adding offline donations.

There are certain circumstances where the law requires you to have a fundraising agreement with us. Have a look at the points below and, if any of them are relevant to your fundraising activity, please email our fundraising team at fundraising@comicrelief.com for a copy of the fundraising agreement form to be filled in and returned to us. You’ll need an agreement if:

  • You’re raising money for Comic Relief in the course of a business e.g. “my shop sells cakes for 50p, and 30p from the sale of each cake will go to Red Nose Day”

  • You’re deducting costs from the money you raise for Comic Relief, for example to cover costs of the event.

  • The money you raise will be split between Comic Relief and another charity.

  • You want to use a Comic Relief logo as part of your fundraising.

  • You are fundraising as part of a large event. (This does not include organised event such as running races etc, where you’re asking for sponsorship)

  • Fundraising including children, young people, vulnerable adults (excluding school settings)

  • There are any health and safety risks involved in your fundraising.

We no longer provide letters of authorisation, but there are certain circumstances where you are required to have a fundraising agreement with us. Please see above for more details on how to acquire one of these and if you need one for your fundraising activity.

If none of these instances above apply, you can still request a fundraising agreement (for example, your local authority may require it).

There are, yes! For handy advice on keeping your event safe and legal, please have a read of our Fundraising Do's and Don'ts.

We work with a wide range of organisations – big and small. To see how you might get involved with us, visit our partners section, or drop our Corporate Team an email at partnerships@comicrelief.com. They’ll be happy to discuss potential partnership opportunities with you.

Gift Aid

If you pay UK tax and you would like to Gift Aid your donation, we can claim an additional 25% of the value of your donation from HMRC, it won't cost you a penny but means your donation can reach even further.

Please note that the money that Comic Relief claims back from HMRC as part of the Gift Aid scheme will be treated as unrestricted funds and used to support our general work, even if the original donation was made towards a specific appeal.

If you make a personal donation to Comic Relief, you will be asked to declare whether you would like us to claim Gift Aid. This will be either by:

  • Ticking the Gift Aid box on the donation page online.

  • Saying ‘yes' to the Gift Aid question whilst donating via the phone. Filling in the Gift Aid form sent to you by text after making a text donation.

  • Asking your sponsors to tick the Gift Aid box on your sponsorship form.

If you’re making a personal donation please give your full name and home address and tick the box or we can’t claim Gift Aid. To say ‘Yes’ to Gift Aid, you must be a UK taxpayer and understand that if you pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains tax in the current tax year than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all of your donations it is your responsibility to pay any difference. Please note, Gift Aid cannot apply to CAF cards (as the tax has already been reclaimed).

The charity reclaims the tax on your donation only at the basic rate, even if you are a higher rate taxpayer. If you are a higher rate taxpayer, you can claim the difference between the higher rate of tax and the current basic rate of tax of 20% on your Self-Assessment return.

If you would like a receipt of all eligible donations that you have made in the last financial year, then please contact our Supporter Services Team on giftaid@comicrelief.com.

You can withdraw your declaration at any time on our website. Please note that the cancellation of your Gift Aid will come into place from the date of the update, any donations made before this may still be Gift Aided.

For further information about Gift Aid, please see the HM Revenue & Customs website or the Chartered Institute of Fundraising. Alternatively, contact your local Tax Office. If you have any questions specifically about your Gift Aid status on your donations made to Comic Relief, please email us at info@comicrelief.com.
