Today Comic Relief has announced a major boost for this year’s fundraising campaign, thanks to the UK Government. Money raised from the public, that will be spent to change the lives of women and girls in Africa this Red Nose Day, will be matched pound for pound by the UK Government.
This money will help to prevent violence against women, make childbirth safer for mothers and babies; help girls get a better education; and make it easier for female farmers to make a better more sustainable living.
African women and girls are among the poorest people on the continent, whose rights are often neglected and lack the access to basic healthcare and education. With help, they can feed their families and send their children to school, which improves their life chances and increases their income.
Red Nose Day is back on Friday 15th March and is encouraging the nation to do something funny for money. Money raised through Red Nose Day is spent by Comic Relief to help change the lives of poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged people across the UK and Africa.
