Summary

We know that sport is a powerful tool for social change. It can be used to challenge harmful stereotypes and address a wide range of issues affecting women and girls. Levelling the Field II invested in local organisations using Sport for Change approaches to contribute to women and girls gaining the power they need to make decisions about their lives and challenge inequalities within their contexts.

The Fund had two overarching aims:

  1. Ensuring women and girls were safe, equal and respected.

  2. Promoting women and girls’ decision- making power and inclusion.

In total, 19,271 women and girls were engaged by our funded partners in Sport for Change initiatives, and the programme led to:

  • 1,499 young people getting vocational training, life skills training and/or returning to school

  • 7,303 young people demonstrating increased knowledge on sexual and reproductive health and/or women and girls’ rights

  • 5,526 young people accessing sexual and reproductive health services

  • 6,988 young people reporting increased confidence and resilience

  • 10,098 community members demonstrating positive changes in attitudes towards women and girls rights
