David Tennant, Dawn French, Karim Zeroual and Olivia Colman are amongst a host of stars who have come together to support Red Nose Day by donning an iconic Red Nose – now 100% plastic free for the first time ever – as they go on sale in selected Sainsbury’s across the UK and online.

The series of exclusive and never seen before photographs released today feature The Vicar of Dibley star Dawn French and some of the cast of Cinderella: A Comic Relief Pantomime including Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Cooper, Daisy May Cooper, David Tennant, David Walliams, Jimmy Akingbola, Tom Hollander, Rosie Jones and Olivia Colman who strike their most regal poses with the 100% plastic-free, plant based Red Noses.

Katherine Ryan, Joe Lycett, Mo Gilligan and Karim Zeroual also beautifully model the Noses and other stylish items in the wider Sainsbury’s official Red Nose Day merchandise range including mugs, pin-badges, deely boppers, plush toys and more.

The new Red Noses, which took over 18 months to develop with Comic Relief’s longstanding partner Sainsbury’s, are made from a by-product of sugarcane called Bagasse and available in 10 fantastically fun woodland characters. The Noses cost £1.50 with at least 75p going to Comic Relief to help fund projects in the UK and around the world that help tackle issues such as homelessness, domestic abuse and mental health stigma, and support those impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tips on how the nation can enjoy their Red Noses safely can be found at comicrelief.com/your-nose. The official Red Nose Day merchandise range is now available in selected Sainsbury’s stores, sainsbury’s.co.uk(opens in new window), comicrelief.com/shop(opens in new window) and argos.co.uk(opens in new window).

Joe Lycett said: “I pigging love Red Nose Day. You get to have a right laugh and help people going through tough times as you do it. And after the year we’ve all had we need a laugh. This year the Red Noses are plastic-free, and I’ve tried one and looked absolutely stunning in it hunni, and so will you.”

Karim Zeroual said: "I’m so excited to be involved in this year’s Red Nose Day campaign – I’ve been a huge supporter of Comic Relief for many years and taking part in last year’s The Heat is On challenge in Namibia was by far one of my most proudest achievements to date.

“To me, Red Nose Day is all about having a laugh while raising money for those who need it most, and I can’t think of an easier way to help than by picking up some of these amazing goodies if you can spare a little change.”

Katherine Ryan said: “Raising money by raising smiles and bringing more joy and humour into people’s lives is just what we need right now – I’m such a big fan of Red Nose Day and love what it stands for. I’ve been supporting the campaign for years now, and this year I think, yes we need you right now!

“It’s been a really strange and difficult time, I’m so happy be able to help raise money for people who are struggling. The gorgeous items on sale are so colourful and pretty, you’ll love them and I hope you can spare a little bit of money to help out the causes that will benefit – like mental health projects, homelessness and domestic abuse, in the UK and around the world.”

Mo Gilligan said: "There’s something so special about laughter and it’s ability to bring people together. Comic Relief has never felt more needed, especially when so many people have it so tough right now. I’m proud to do whatever I can to help this year’s incredible campaign. Even something as small as buying a pin badge can make a difference.”

Judith Batchelar, Director of CR&S and Public Affairs at Sainsbury’s said: “We’re delighted to be working with our long-standing partner Comic Relief again this year to help those in need and collectively raise funds to support some of the most vulnerable people in the communities we serve, across the UK. For the first time ever, we are also proud to have developed a new 100% plastic free, plant-based Nose. This is just another example of Sainsbury’s commitment to reducing plastic in our business, alongside our target to halve plastic packaging by 2025”
