Stephen Fry encourages the nation to join a Hogwarts League and get stepping for the Sport Relief Billion Steps Challenge

8th March 2018

Sport Relief in partnership with Pottermore launch a Hogwarts League within the Sport Relief App - giving individuals the chance to go head-to-head to step their house to the top of the league as part of the Sport Relief Nation's Billion Steps a Day Challenge.

•    Harry Potter fans are being called upon to help the nation beat the billion steps a day challenge, every day, from 17-23 March 2018.

•    Individuals can also compete in a Quidditch-themed challenge within the app, to unlock never-before-heard audio clips from Quidditch Through the Ages, the digital audiobook of the Hogwarts Library book that J.K. Rowling wrote as Kennilworthy Whisp. Read by Andrew Lincoln, it will be published on 15 March 2018 by Pottermore Publishing.

Fans will be able to sign up to their Hogwarts house as teams Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin go head-to-head to see who can do the most steps. A live leaderboard will allow fans to track how many steps their house has achieved, as well as who is winning.

Rallying fans to show their house pride, Stephen Fry said:

‘I don’t need a Sorting Hat, I’ve downloaded the Sport Relief App, and I’m stepping for Slytherin. Help your house step to victory!’

Tom Greene, Publishing Director, Pottermore, said:

‘We are thrilled to be partnering with Sport Relief to launch the Hogwarts League in their app, which we hope will help the nation reach a billion steps a day. To celebrate, we want Harry Potter fans to make their mark on the Billion Steps Challenge by joining one of the four Hogwarts houses and going head-to-head to see which house collectively can do the most steps.

‘It’s a really exciting collaboration for this original Hogwarts Library Book and highlights the important work Comic Relief does. Proceeds from the sale of the digital audiobook will go to Comic Relief and Lumos , the charity founded by J.K. Rowling, for their work with children and young people to help them have a better life.’

Liz Warner, CEO of Comic Relief, added:

‘We are very excited to be able to call on all Harry Potter fans to join the Hogwarts league and help the nation beat the Billion Steps Challenge, and raise funds for our projects during the week of Sport Relief. We’re looking forward to seeing whether it will be Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin who step their way to the top of the league for good causes.’

Fans will also be able to compete in two Quidditch-themed steps challenges within the app:
