Pupils remember sporting greats for Sport Relief

27th June 2017

Today, good sports from Argoed High School have been recreating great sporting moments to encourage schools across Wales to get involved in Sport Relief 2016.

Year 7 and 8 pupils from the Argoed High School in Mold recreated the greatest moments in Great Britain, including England’s 1966 World Cup win, Usain Bolt’s 100m record breaker, and Wales qualifying for Euro 2016, and show how easy it is to take part in this year’s campaign and raise some all-important cash.

The pupils also impersonated everyone’s favourite wizard, Harry Potter, by playing a game of Quidditch.

Last Sport Relief, Argoed High School raised an incredible £1,147.01 by organising a staff cycle for the week where they attempted to cover the distance from the school to Glasgow and back, helping to fund projects right here in Wales and across the UK. This year, like hundreds of schools across the region they will be making every mile count on Friday 18th March.

Mark Hanson, curriculum leader for physical education said, “Every year we try and do new and different things to get the children excited about sports and fundraising for Sport Relief. The effort everyone has put in today is tremendous, there have been lots of laughs and it has been a huge success!”

Teachers can get started by signing up for a free school fundraising kit. It’s full of fundraising ideas, posters, balloons and stickers, as well as learning resources to help pupils understand where the money goes. Just head to sportrelief.com/schools.

There are lots of ways to get involved: at school, in the workplace and in the local area. From Friday 18th to Sunday 20th March 2016 the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games are back and the whole of Wales will walk, run, swim or cycle itself proud to raise vital cash to help people living incredibly tough lives. In fact, half of all the money raised by the public is spent right here in the UK, with the other half used to make a difference in the world’s poorest communities. Sign up now at sportrelief.com.
