An Irish accessories designer who went viral after dressing up as everyday household objects has put her creative efforts to the test by depicting one of this year’s famous Comic Relief Red Noses – a pink flamingo.
Taryn De Vere, from Co. Donegal, Ireland, who prides herself on making the world a more colourful place, gathered items from around the house to piece together the colourful outfit to make a sustainable – and funny – fashion statement. She was joined by Birmingham-born friend and broadcaster Nadine Reid in the challenge. The friends, who met working for an online magazine, are supporting Comic Relief ahead of the return of Red Nose Day which is back on Friday 18th March.
Taryn said: “When I saw the animal inspired Red Noses, I knew that dressing up as them would be great fun! Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day is iconic and uses humour to connect with people – which is why I wanted to work with the charity. I don’t take things too seriously and humour runs through everything that I do which is why I think this project appeals to so many people. It’s fun and funny is power.”
She added: “The project has really resonated with people so I want to keep it going throughout the year. I’m currently receiving requests from all over the world.”
Nadine said: “I’m Brummie, and grew up obsessed with Lenny Henry. When I first moved to Ireland I used to lie and tell people that he was my uncle! Since I was a kid, I’ve always been touched by the great work of Comic Relief, especially the work it does for children both locally and all over the world.”
This year’s Red Noses, (£1.50 with at least 75p going to Comic Relief) feature eight animals and are 100% plastic free. There are eight amazingly adventurous characters to find and collect – seven Red Noses called Chip, Dot, Dash, Flo, Lucky, Rocco, Sky and one ultra-rare Nose, Cam. All the Red Noses are plant-based and made from a by-product of sugarcane, called Bagasse.

Cam
Colourful by nature and creative in spirit, so who else would be in charge of this year’s big dressing-up day? Collecting donations is the easy bit. Deciding what to wear when you have a rainbow wardrobe though…?
Rocco
Rocco is a real mover and groover who lives life to the beat and is always busy rehearsing some croc ‘n’ roll riffs for the talent show. This nose knows nothing but rhythm so prepare to get those feet tapping and fingers snapping. Will you join the crocodile rock?
Chip
This happy little hippo gets excited by gathering rib-ticklers and side-splitters for a sponsored jokeathon. Today’s favourite: What do you call a hippo that doesn’t keep his bedroom tidy? A hippopotamess.
