Tuesday 3rd November: An NHS Scotland key worker from Clackmannanshire has won an exclusive Morgan Plus Four sports car after winning The Big Night In’s prize draw.
The Big Night In was a special night of television on BBC One in April which saw Comic Relief and BBC Children in Need come together for the first time to raise money to help vulnerable people affected by COVID-19.
Brian Houston, who works in payroll for the NHS in Scotland, entered the draw to be in with a chance to winning the exclusive sports car featured in the live show. His entry helped raised over £1.3 million to support projects across the UK providing vital emergency support to those affected by the pandemic.
The Morgan Plus Four car was delivered straight to Brian’s door earlier this month from the Morgan factory based in Worcestershire. Brian, who was selected at random, spent the summer months customising the car to his preferences and is now enjoying his new set of wheels.
Morgan Plus Four winner Brian Houston said: “You never think you’re actually going to win so I’m absolutely delighted to be the new owner of this dream sports car! I’m thrilled that the draw raised such a significant amount of money to help people during this difficult time. I might not have entered if it hadn’t been for Peter Kay. When I heard he was returning on The Big Night In, I knew I had to watch and that’s when I entered the prize draw. I am an eternally grateful NHS worker!"
Ruth Davison, Comic Relief Chief Executive, said: “It’s wonderful to see Brian taking to the roads in his new sports car and enjoying his prize that was so generously donated by Morgan Motor Company. We’d like to say a big thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who supported our emergency COVID-19 appeal – the money raised has been helping some of the most vulnerable people impacted by the pandemic in Scotland, and around the UK. We hugely appreciate every single pound donated in such troubling times, thank you."
HM Government match funded donations to The Big Night In until 23 June. Thanks to the generosity of those who donated, over £70 million was raised for projects across the UK including £20million for the National Emergencies Trust and £4 million for NHS charities together.
BBC Children in Need's appeal show will return on Friday 13 November. Watch from 7pm on BBC One for an action-packed show of entertainment. For further information, visit www.bbcchildreninneed.co.uk(opens in new window)
