Tuesday 3 February: It’s well known that red is the colour associated with Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day. That’s the way it’s always been. But what if Noses could also be green, or pink, or dotty - or even covered in stickers? This Red Nose Day, Comic Relief is inviting kids and grown-ups alike to put their own creative stamp on the iconic Red Nose, with the first ever Design-Yer Nose - available to buy alongside a range of Noses and merchandise designed by famous artist Mr Doodle - via official Home of the Red Nose, Amazon, with prices starting at £2.50.
With its blank canvas, creativity can flow on the Design-Yer Nose, and stars including actors Jodie Whittaker and Natalie Cassidy, comedians Ellie Taylor and Rosie Jones, and TV personality Harry Aikines-Aryeetey were the first to put pen to Nose – all in the name of Taking themselves Funny for Money.
Embracing the positive message – and the creative mess - Ellie Taylor proved the Design-Yer Nose provides plenty of fun for all the family: "The Design-Yer Nose is exactly my kind of activity - messy, creative and meaningful! As a mum, I love anything that helps kids get creative while also teaching them about kindness and giving back. I had heaps of fun designing a rainbow on my Nose for my kids, and can't wait for them to get stuck in too."
For Rosie Jones, Red Nose Day has always been about using humour to bring people together: "I love Red Nose Day because it proves that being silly can make a serious difference and it brings people together through laughter in so many ways. Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to experience it all with Comic Relief – the fun, the daftness, the creativity, and seeing how much it helps to change lives. This year’s Design-Yer Nose is all those things rolled into one – how could I resist?"
Jodie Whittaker leant right into the make-it-yours brief, celebrating the idea that no two Noses need look the same: “The Design-Yer Noses are such a brilliant idea because you can make them completely individual, and show off your artistic flair."
Keeping the message simple and powerful, Natalie Cassidy created a design with a motto that hits bang on the Nose: “I decided to write "Be kind" on my Nose, because Comic Relief is all about kindness."
Meanwhile, Harry Aikines-Aryeetey drew inspiration from his daughter’s love of mythical creatures: “I chose to design a unicorn Nose for my daughter, because they're amazing creatures, aren't they? And she’ll love it."
In preparation for Red Nose Day on 20 March, the public can now get their hands on a Design-Yer Nose on Amazon(opens in new window), official Home of the Red Nose – with free One-Day Delivery for all customers - as well as Comic Relief’s online shop(opens in new window).
And fans of the traditional Red Nose need not fear - the Design-Yer Nose remains red and squishy at its core - and can also be bought as part of a pack containing an original Red Nose.
What’s more, Comic Relief has this year partnered with renowned artist Mr Doodle to design a collection of Noses, bucket hats and pin badges in his instantly recognisable doodle style.
Every Nose purchased will make a big difference to the lives of people across the UK and around the world who are facing hunger, homelessness and harm, so they can eat, sleep and feel safe. The money raised will help put food on plates, provide safe places to sleep and protect people who are at risk and in need of relief from danger and poverty.
The packs and items available to buy are:
A Collector Pack including Two Design-Yer Noses, one original Red Nose, plus two surprise Noses designed by famous artist Mr Doodle
Multipacks of 30 Noses, ideal for classrooms, workplaces, or community groups
Bucket hats and Pin badges designed by Mr Doodle.
Samir Patel, CEO of Comic Relief, said: “For decades we’ve seen the beloved Red Nose shapeshift through a host of unique styles, characters and textures, proudly worn on the end of the nation’s own noses. This Red Nose Day we wanted to put the creativity directly into the hands of the public. The Design-Yer Nose is about expression, individuality and joy, and is the perfect opportunity for people of all ages to get involved and Take Yourself Funny for Money in their own special way. And the important part – this simple act of can help change some serious stuff. Every Nose purchased will help support people in the UK and around the world access the basic essentials that everyone has a right to – food to eat, a safe place to sleep and a life free from fear and harm."
Artist, Mr Doodle, said: "I’ve always believed that drawing should be fun, playful and something that makes you feel good, so it's been amazing to partner with Comic Relief this Red Nose Day and design my own range of doodled Noses - and I can't wait to see all the different ways people get creative with their own Design-Yer Noses too. There's something really special about turning art into something that can genuinely help people, and the best bit is anyone can do it. So grab your Nose from Amazon and get doodling!"
